He was the Obersleutanant. I.e Lt col rank and was associated with Indian legion raised in Germany by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during WW II. Netaji after arrival in Germany met Hitler and had discussions with senior German officers about his efforts to liberate India with the Help of Germany and he proposed to raise armed force . The captured Men of British Indian army in the war were motivated for the cause and they joined the cause and took oath in allegiance to Hitler.Krappe was fully associated. With these efforts, training of the men . The legionnaires wore German army Wehrmacht uniform with shoulder patch of springing. Bengal tiger. at later stage the legion was attached to Waffen SS and KRAPPE agreed to shift over to Waffen SS with rank Oberststurmbannfuhrer. however the men of the legion were not willing to accept Heinz bertlong replacing Kurt KRAPPE as the commanding officer. Heinz having come to know that he was not accepted by the men of the legion stayed away and KRAPPE commnader the legion till the last. WhenHitler attacked USSR Netajis plans of invasion of India via western Indian borders crashed and he moved to Japan where he raised INA.Infact , USSR can invade. Indias western front via.
