He was a German communist
and anti Nazi fighter. He took active part in organising resistance groups and
spent lot of time underground avoiding arrest. He was motivated to join the 20
July plot to assassinate Hitler by key personnel and in the process he was
betrayed by an informer and was arrested by Gestapo when he went for a
scheduled meeting. He was tried and sentenced to death on Sept 5, 1944 and was
executed at Brandenberg. Prison on 18 sept 1944. His wife survived the war
