He was the member of white Rose, a Nazi resistance organization in 1942...43. He was drafted into German army during WW II and saw
action on eastern front against Russians. He saw the mass killing of Russian
prisoners and civilians and developed hatred to Nazism. After he was released
from army, he went to university at Munich to study medicine. He along with
professor Kurt Huber wrote the fifth pamphlet denouncing the war, mass
killings, murder of Jews. and these were distributed in Austrian cities Gestapo
was after him and after the arrest of Hans Scholl and others. He went into
hiding trying to escape to Switzerland. But he was arrested from an air strike
protection shelter on 24 February 1943 and was tried by people's court along
with Prof Kurt Huber . They were sentenced to death for high treason. They were
guillotined on 19 April 1943
