Pencil sketch of an anti Nazi by Dr K Prabhakar Rao

HELMUTH  HUEBNER

He was the youngest person to be executed by Nazi govt. Helmuth was just 17 years old when he was executed for anti state activities and treason. He studied at Hamburg to school level and was member of scouts that was banned by the Govt and they had no option except to join Hitler’s youth. He was from a religious family practicing Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints ( LDS church). He used to hear the news from enemy radios from a friend with communist background. It was forbidden by Nazi govt and the offense amounted to reason. He managaed to find a radio from which he listened to BBC that were completely different from German radio news. .He had two close friends Rudolf wobbe and Karl Heinz schnibbe and with their help , he distributed anti govt pamphlets written by him on type writer in the town. He wanted people to know that Germany was heading to disaster and defeat and they were committing grave crimes against humanity. He also developed friendship with Gerhard Duewar. Information leaked to gestapo and he was arrested along with his associates on 05 Feb 1942. He was tried by the court Voltsgerichtshof on the charges of treason and although he was young was sentenced to death on 11 Aug 1942 while his associates were given jail terms. Helmuth was executed on a Guillotine on 27 Oct 1942 at plotzensee prison in Berlin. The court observed that although he was young, he was fully developed and mature like adult and his mind developed as good as fully grown adult. His views on the political scene were clear and would pose great danger in future if not punished and his actions would aid enemy and hence was dealt like an adult. In the court he remarked at the judge. I am sentenced to death because I told truth, To day is my time and soon your time will come.
