 KARL HASS

Karl Hass was German SS Lt col and was with SS intelligence service and with his ruthless actions, he was elevated faster from junior level. After fall and  execution of of Mussolini by Partisans in Italy , Germany occupied Italy. Hass was sent to setup radio net work in Italy and also sabotage behind Allied lines who were advancing in Italy. Italian partisans in one of the bomb attack on March 23, 1944 killed  33 German troops and. The enraged SS organised reprisals at the orders  reportedly of Hitler and rounded up About 335 civilians including jews some partisan prisoners and massacred them at Ardeatine cave near Rome with the help of Erich preibke another SS officer.  After WW II, he was arrested by Allies but he was used by USA for spying over Soviet Union. He lived for fifty yearsin USA without any trouble as a freeman. Italy requested for his extradition and he reported to Italy and he was tried in 1998. He was to testify against preibke. But during night changed his mind and tried to escape by climbing out of balcony , But by misfortune he fell down and was badly injured. He was taken to hospital where he testified about the massacre . He was given life sentence by the trial courtr but due to poor health, he was put in house arrest and he died in April 2004.

He was a SS captain during WW II and belonged police dept of SS and he was associated with massacre of Italian prisoners at Ardeatine cave near Rome where 335 Italian prisoners including Jews were massacred in batches of five in a cave.it is claimed this massacre was done at the orders of hitler after 33 German soldiers were killed by Italian partisans. For every one German soldier killed 10 Italians were to be killed as per the orders. accordingly the task was accomplished with the help of SS. Officer Karl hass. After war he escaped to Argentina With the help of Vatican pass port and travel documents. A bishop helped the war criminals .He lived there for next Fifty years As freeman.His involvement in massacre was discussed in a book written and found in old stores. The nazi hunters began researching for him and traced him and he gave an interview to M   Donaldson of BBC in 1994. In which he confessed his involvement in the massacre. Subsequently after great efforts and court battles he was extradited to Italy where the trial took four years. After prolonged legal battles, public retaliation over court decisions, he was sentenced to life along with   Karl Hass. He was placed under house arrest . He passed away on 11 Oct 2013.in Rome.
