LIUDAS KAIRYS

Nazi captured in US-Liudas Kairys Former SS commander and guard at the Treblinka concentration camp. After the war, he moved to the U.S. and became a citizen, settling in the Chicago area. Following an investigation by the Department of Justice’s OSI, he was stripped of his citizenship in 1984, a decision that was affirmed in 1986. He was deported in Germany in 1993. Although investigation proceedings were launched against him there, he died there without standing trial.

JOSEF HOGEN

Joseph Hoegen was one of the most notorious Gestapo officers in the German city of Cologne. He was known for his unbounded cruelty and constantly changing forms of torture that he would devise. After the war, he was arrested by the Allies and turned over to German authorities. He was put through trial and given nine years. In 1953, he was pardoned and went on to become a merchant in Cologne. He died in 1973 without paying for his crimes.
